Regulation and legal framework

TransUnion Canada

Français : TransUnion Canada

The second credit bureau in Canada. Calculates the CreditVision score. Some lenders check TransUnion in addition to or instead of Equifax. Both files can differ slightly.

Definition

TransUnion Canada is the Canadian subsidiary of TransUnion LLC (Chicago). Its proprietary Canadian score is called CreditVision (formerly TransUnion Score).

Differences from Equifax: - Both bureaus receive reports from the same major lenders, but a lender may only report to one of the two — some information is therefore exclusive to one bureau - Score calculation algorithms differ slightly — the same borrower may have a score of 710 at Equifax and 690 at TransUnion - Retention duration of certain information may vary (1-2 days) per policies

Which bureau lenders consult: - Most major Canadian banks and mono-line lenders consult Equifax first - Some B-lenders consult both - TD Bank is known to consult primarily TransUnion in Canada

Practical recommendation: check both files before a mortgage application to identify discrepancies or errors.
